MAREK'S LAB TECHNICIAN

Level 1

 

 

Hours/Shift:

Monday-Friday

 2 weeks: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm

 1 week: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

 1 week: 5:00 am - 1:30 pm

 *Requires on weekend a month (Saturday & Sunday).

Job Summary and Purpose:

Prepare sterile and non sterile media and reagents for antigen production.  Clean and sterilize glassware, supplies and laboratory work areas.  Assist in the production of antigens to be used in final vaccine product in a clean room environment.

Responsibilities and Key Duties:

Preparation of clean and sterile glassware and supplies. 

Clean, prepare and wrap glassware, equipment and supplies.

Learn why the equipment and instruments are wrapped the way they are for use in a clean room.

Sterilize equipment and supplies via autoclave when required.

Keep neat, detailed and accurate records completed concurrently with processes.

Clean and disinfect the kitchen and other non clean room areas according to established procedures ensuring appropriate records are filled out at the completion of the task.

Laboratory stocking and disinfection.

 

Work with team to clean and disinfect laboratory and media prep areas as per approved SOPs.

Record cleaning on appropriate documentation as soon as the task is complete.

Stock laboratories with general supplies.  Use “First In, First Out” Rules.

Place roller bottles onto empty roller racks in a clean room environment.

Assist in cycle counting of materials and supplies as needed.

Remove general waste from the lab areas and take it to the dock areas for pick up.           

Assist with general laboratory procedures.

Open boxes of roller bottles and inspect bottles before placing on roller apparatus.

Load roller bottles under the laminar flow hood for harvesting procedures.

Shake roller bottles containing trypsin when required and remove empty bottles from the harvest area for transport to the recycling area.

Help in the clean room environment as needed by performing aseptic tasks such as placement and pick of environmental monitoring plates,  cell preparation, cell filtering, cell counting, media and other harvest solution preparation, planting roller bottles, thawing seed, inoculation of roller bottles, harvest procedures (pour off, adding enzyme, set up/operating/cleaning the viafuge, filtering and/or batching) .  Also may learn to set up, operate and clean the filling machine.  May perform embryo work such as egg cracking, decapper operation, pulling, washing, trypsinizing, centrifugation, and cell resuspension.

Place ampoules of vaccine into cane holders prior to freezing.

 

Sampling            

Deliver samples to Quality Control in a timely manner and return empty transport containers to the Marek's area.

Additional Responsibilities:        

Liquid Nitrogen duties including but not limited to:  measuring levels of liquid nitrogen in storage tanks, counting final product and moving from liquid nitrogen storage tanks to transport tank for delivery to the distribution warehouse, re-arrange product as necessary in the storage tanks.

Place a color coded tab onto the top of aluminum canes.

 

 



Required Qualifications
Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to work independently & in a team environment both!
  • Adhere to Attendance Policy. 
  • Basic/Intermediate Computer Skills
  • Good Math skills
  • Legible Handwriting.
  • Attention to detail
  • Desire to learn and grow in the position.
  • Work experience in Biologics or Life Sciences preferred.
 

Education Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree and 0  years experience.
  • Associate Degree in life-science field, and at least 0-1 years of work experience in GMP environment is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. At least 1+ years of work experience in a GMP environment is preferred.
  • Other combination of education and experience.
